Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park is a hidden gem of untamed wilderness and stunning terrain hence referred to as the “True Wilderness,” in Africa. The Park consists of rugged terrain, diverse wildlife and rich cultural heritage.

The Park was named after the Kidepo River which traverses the vast valleys and covers an area of over 1,400 square kilometers bordering Mountain Morungole and Narus ranges.

The Park includes a wide range of plant and animal species i.e over 77 mammal species like African elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah,  buffalo, giraffe, zebra and various antelope species such as eland, hartebeest, and oribi.

There are also over 470 bird species recorded in the park and these include; the Verreaux’s eagle, the pygmy falcon Steel-blue Whydah, Little Green Bee-eater, Hoopoe, Singing Bush lark, Ethiopian Swallow, Orange-winged Pytilia, Abyssinian Ground hornbill, Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu, Fan-tailed Raven etc.

How to get to Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park in Uganda can be accessed by all travelers using Road and Air Transport while on holiday vacation.

By Air

Kidepo Valley National Park can be accessed by use of Air as you catch domestic flights after landing at the Entebbe International Airport to Kidepo Airport where our driver guide meets you and transfers you to the Park. However, you can get from Kajjansi Airstrip to Kidepo.

By Road

By Road, you can transfer from Kampala or Entebbe Airport for a period of 8 to 10 hours via the Kampala-Gulu-Kitgum Highway till you reach Kidepo Valley National Park.

Things to do in Kidepo Valley National Park

Game Drives

Game Drives in Kidepo are the most exciting activity to do as you transfer from one track to another in a 4×4 wheel drive vehicle.

You follow the trail through the Savannah Plains and rolling hills watching many wildlife animals ranging from iconic African mammals to rare and elusive predators. The wildlife animals you watch include; Giraffes, Elephants, Hippos, Buffalo, Wart Hogs, Bush Buck, Duiker, Water Buck, small antelope, and bird species like the Eagles, Hamerkop, guinea fowl.

Game Drives in the Park are scheduled to take place three times a Day i.e Morning Game Drive starting at 6:30 am to Mid-Day, Afternoon Game Drive from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm then the Night

Cultural Encounters

In addition to its rich wildlife, Kidepo Valley National Park is home to several indigenous communities that can be encountered and experienced. These include the popular Karamojong people who take you through their traditions and customs. There are also the unique rare IK people who inhabit the slopes of Mount Lomej and are very primitive as well as exceptional to engage with on Cultural Safari Tour.

On meeting them engage in traditional dances, village visits, and craft demonstrations.
